Produced by VMR (a leading ecigarette manufacturer), the V2 Pro Series 3 is the company’s first product in a new line of portable vaporizers (the Series 6 and 9 are coming in Fall 2014 and January 2015 respectively, I’ll have more info on those in a later post) which boast a revolutionary magnetic connection system which allows for a quick and easy way to change the functionality of your vaporizer (want to vape loose leaf, oils, or e-liquids? Simply drop in the proper attachment and start vaping!). After I received a Series 3 courtesy of VMR, I got to work unboxing the kit, which I found easy to open and get started with after a quick charge (the unit ships charged halfway). Everything you need to get started vaping e-liquid is included in this package on the V2 website for $69. You can also purchase additional attachments such as the loose leaf chamber on the site as well.
My initial thoughts after unboxing the Series 3 was that the build quality of the unit is excellent. The body is made out of light yet solid metal, and it was very comfortable to hold and use. Due to its sleek design, I preferred the Series 3 over my regular eGo-V Spinner (which is my usual go-to device for vaping cannabis e-liquid), and its much sleeker than my Innokin iTaste! The main selling point of the Series 3 for me however was its magnetic charger and cartridge system (which is definitely my favorite thing about the unit!). No more fiddling around unscrewing different parts to recharge or replace a tank, simply let the magnets click everything into place! The Series 3 also uses a special ‘smart technology’ which detects what type of cartridge you’re using (loose leaf, e-liquid, or oils) and adjusts itself to the best suited temperature. In the past week that I’ve been using the Series 3 (mainly with e-liquids, but also loose leaf on occasion), and I haven’t had any issues with the system. In fact, I’ve only grown fonder of how convenient it is!
Unlike most vape pens, the Series 3 separates the heating element from your bud (which prevents it from burning as easily) by using a special herb trench (see my picture to the right). With some bud filled into the chamber, I popped the cartridge in and turned the unit on by pressing the button three times within one second. Automatically sensing that the loose leaf chamber is inserted, the LED at the bottom of the unit began to change from red to yellow and then to green when it reached the proper temperature (the unit stays on heat mode continuously for 120 seconds before you need to press the button again).Unlike most vape pens, the Series 3 loose leaf chamber automatically holds a set temperature (ranging between 160C-180C), and much to my surprise, I didn’t have any issues with burned herb. By varying the speed of my inhales and turning the bowl from time to time, I was able to get quite a few hits of smooth and tasty vapor and preloading a bowl for while you’re out is pretty convenient. However, don’t expect huge clouds of vapor like you’d get from a more dedicated unit such as an Ascent or Solo. Due to the steady heat, this mode drained the battery faster than while in e-liquid mode, but I was still able to get about ten full bowls in before I needed a recharge.
Aside from the loose leaf cartridge, I also tried the e-liquid cartridge (there’s also an oil cartridge, but I didn’t try that one) and had some excellent results with it. After unscrewing the top of the tank, I loaded up some of my DIY cannabis e-juice and once again the smart sensor knew the proper settings to use for the cartridge (this time the tip of the unit turned white when I pressed and held the button to take puffs). The vapor production on the e-liquid tanks was consistent, and the battery lasted me the entire day with moderate use (the Series 3 tank can hold up to 1.6ml of e-liquid). The tank system uses two silica wicks to feed the atomizer, and I found that the atomizer produced thick vapor while still allowing for a smooth draw.
Overall, I loved the Series 3’s innovative design, and available for only $69, the Series 3 performs superbly with concentrates or e-liquids, and surprisingly well with loose leaf (just don’t expect any vapor clouds when using loose leaf!). The magnetic system combined with great battery life and smooth vapor makes for a great experience, and I definitely recommend picking a Series 3 if you’re looking for a discreet, affordable, and versatile vape! The Series 3 is available in blue, black, or silver, and I’m definitely excited to see what VMR has in store for the next two vapes in the series!
