Davinci is a well-known company in the vaporizer market. It launched its first portable vaporizer, the OG Davinci Vaporizer, in 2012.
Now, the company has launched its fourth portable vaporizer and named it the Davinci Miqro. It is a dry herb conduction vaporizer.
Pros and Cons to the DaVinci Miqro
I really was not fond of the Ascent model launched by DaVinci but I have always felt that the company stepped up their game with the launch of IQ and now, I have become a big fan of the Miqro Vape. DaVinci has packed in a number of features with this new launch including Smart path airways, full temp spectrum along with a replaceable battery system. The new design is pearl shaped that has resulted in a smaller chamber size making it the perfect device for single person sessions.
As compared to the IQ Vape, the new Miqro is easier to maintain and clean. All the pieces can be easily cleaned and the included pick tool makes it extremely easy to clean out the chamber once you’re done. In fact, I have reviewed quite a few portable vaporizers till date and I can say that the Miqro is definitely the smallest among those. I am amazed by the design, size as well as overall functionality of this device.
Even though I’m really a fan of this vaporizer, there are a few minor gripes. One of the first issues is that the outer shell of the vaporizer gets hot just like IQ. In the manual, it is mentioned that the package will include a glove in the Explorers Collection. Another issue I have with this device is that the included battery is the small 18350 which means you will get an overall life of only around 30 minutes per battery. In simple terms, it means that you will get only 6, 5-minute sessions for each battery. That really is not that much. However, the package contains two batteries to provide a total session time of 60 minutes.
Review of the DaVinci Miqro
Put simply, Miqro Vape is the right choice for someone who wants to vape alone or in a group, and needs the discretion or portability without the need for most battery life. Keep in mind that this vaporizer is not designed to be a device that one would want to enjoy at home with long casual sessions all day long. This is a device that has been specifically designed to take with you when you are walking the dog or enjoying a night out on the town or when you go to a music festival. It can be easily hidden in your palm and it looks like a key fob when in your pocket.
The real standout features are the warranty, price and size. If you do care more about battery life, you should check out the Davinci IQ. The IQ model has a number of extra features that can be accessed with the help of the DaVinci smartphone App. The IQ Vape also offers double the battery life and I also have a feeling that it has a stronger heating element.
The overall build quality of the DaVinci Miqro seems highly durable. The materials used for making the device feel strong and of high quality.
The Miqro has a great feeling when you hold it in your hands but it also has the issue of getting too hot similar to the IQ model. In my experience, it is better to hold this vaporizer in your hand and dissipate some of the heat through your palm. I have also noted that it gets the hottest when I forget about it after putting it down when it’s still on. The glove that comes with every Miqro Vape helps to alleviate this problem.
You should also know that the company offers five years manufacturer warranty which happens to be best warranty in this price range.
Portability and Size
As far as the weight is concerned, this device has a weight of around 104 g/ 3.53 oz, with a full chamber and with battery in. It is roughly an inch deep, 3 1/ 8 inches tall and 1 3/8 inches wide. It is not only extremely small in size but also packs in a number of great features. It is extremely easy to conceal, easy to pocket and you can palm it completely for discretion. In fact, I’ve already misplaced it a few times as it is so small. It looks like a key fob and if you are in the habit of losing your keys, you might find it difficult not to misplace this device.
What’s Included in the Box?
You can buy this dry herb vaporizer in two different variants. You have the option of buying the basic kit or the Explorers collection. The Explorer collections is available for purchase at $199 and if you are interested in buying only the unit, you would have to shell out $149.
As far as the Explorers collection is concerned, you will get the DaVinci Miqro, grinder kit, glove, carry can, micro cleaning tool, four cleaning pipe swabs, extra pearl post and gasket, USB cable, 10 mm water pipe adapter, two 18350 900 mAH batteries, a carry case along with a mouthpiece gasket.
Overall, the Explorers collection is well worth the price. I particularly like the carry can as it has two different sections. The front section is designed to hold the spare battery whereas you can store extra dry herb in the back end. It has water tight gaskets. The DaVinci carry case is padded and it has sealed zippers which should lock in the smell and also make the case watertight.
In case you want to use this device heavily, it is recommended to invest in a few extra batteries as well as an external charger such as a nitecore. It will allow you to charge two batteries simultaneously.
Ceramic Zirconium has been used for making the vapor path in this device, similar to the DaVinci IQ. The mouthpiece, the air path, the bowl as well as the pearl are manufactured from this material. This material is easy to clean when compared to the IQ and also offers great taste, especially for a conduction vaporizer.
It takes around 40 to 50 seconds to heat up which is the average heating time for most of the vaporizers available on the market today. Some of the other portable devices such as the Pax 3 heat up in the 20 to 25 second range but overall, it depends on where and when you will be using your device.
I also feel that the heater in the Miqro is not as powerful as the heater in the IQ Vape. I need to use higher temperatures a lot more on the Miqro if I want to see some clouds. While using the IQ vaporizer, I never needed to stir the bowl whereas I had to do that with the Miqro, especially at the end of the session.
It has full temperature spectrum that ranges from 300 to 430 degrees F, standby mode, boost mode as well as smart path technology.
When you use the boost mode, the temperature is rapidly increased to the maximum and the device holds the temperature if you keep the button pressed.
In this mode, the devices cools down rapidly in order to conserve the dry herb as well as the battery life. If the devices is kept in this mode for two minutes, it will automatically turn off.
Smart Path Technology
In this mode, you have the option of choosing a smart path that is labeled 1 to 4. Each Path allows you to choose a preset temperature range which allows an increment of 20 degrees. When you choose a smart path, the device starts at the lower end of the temperature spectrum and the temperature is raised gradually to the maximum over a period of five minutes.
With tight packing, I have been able to fit in around 1/4 of a gram of dry herb in the chamber. Typically, I push in around 0.15 g of the herb and the pearl takes up the remaining chamber space. If it is packed tightly, you will need to stir it but it will also help in getting more clouds. If you want more clouds, you should grind your dry herb very fine but you will need to clean the device more frequently.
During testing, I discovered that this device has a draw resistance that is much less, when compared to all the other portable devices available in this price range. The drag resistance is likely to increase after you have passed the five bowl range. Therefore, it is recommended to clean all the pieces of the device after every 6 to 10 bowls if you want to keep getting the best results.
It will also depend on the type of herbs that you use in the device along with the loading styles and your frequency of cleaning the chamber after sessions. If you have the habit of leaving herbs in the chamber after the session, it will get dirty much quicker.
As mentioned above, a rechargeable 18350 900 mAH battery is used in this device and you get two such batteries with the package. I can, for sure, say that there are two batteries when you buy the Explorers collection.
A full battery should last around 30 minutes. In simple terms, this device is not meant for people who want to enjoy long sessions at home. On the other hand, this is the right choice for people who want to carry a portable unit with them and want discretion.
A dead battery is fully charged inside the unit in around 90 to 110 minutes. I also use my external charger to charge the batteries and charging using an external charger saves around 10 to 20 minutes. While the time difference is not huge but you can charge two batteries simultaneously in the external charger.
Maintenance and Cleaning
As far as cleaning is concerned, it is quite easy to remove and clean the mouthpiece, Vapor path as well as the Zirconium Pearl. Typically, I wipe down the pearl quickly and put the mouthpiece and vapor Path in ISO for around 10 minutes. After around 10 minutes, I give a quick wipe to these components and let them dry after rinsing before I put them back together. For cleaning the vapor path, use the included pipe cleaners. If you’re not really worried about time, you may keep the vapor path and the mouthpiece in ISO overnight and then, there is no need to use even the pipe cleaner.
While size of the device is a big improvement, I also feel that another much improved upon feature in this device is the pearl. It works really well and is capable of shrinking the chamber size by around 50% for those quick single person sessions. Personally, I start session with a pearl at one spot. I like to stir when the bowl is at the very end, and then I like to extend the pearl to get everything out of the bowl.
Overall, this device is a great addition to the already released portable vaporizers in the current year. I would say that portable vaporizers are getting cheaper and better with time. The category of vaporizers available at less than 200 is really blowing up and I have a feeling that companies are focusing on offering high quality vaporizers at this particular price point.
This particular device is the smallest battery-powered vaporizer available in the market today and it has a lot of features. In fact, it has everything that you would want in a portable vaporizer and there isn’t much to complain about the battery life due to its small size.
